Some people may say “Pilots – what’s that then?” Well the answer is that Pilots is an ecumenical, non-uniformed organisation run by United Reformed churches but open to all children and young people. We believe that every child and young person matters. Consequently, Pilots aims to meet the needs of each community in which it functions, offering children and young people safe and caring environments to flourish in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ.
After long discussions and prayer, we started our own Pilots Group three weeks ago. So far it has been very successful. At each of the hour-long sessions we have had five children (but not the same five each week) and several others have shown an interest in joining. Our activities are aimed at the 5 to 9 age group and the hour is busy with a welcome and admin matters followed by a craft session relating to a bible story; a short stop for a drink and biscuit then followed by a noisy game – all relating to the week’s theme.
Since the main object is to bring children to a knowledge of God we have started at the beginning with the stories of the creation of the world as told in Genesis 1.
Meetings are held during school term-times only so we have a week off now and will recommence on 6 June. If you know of any children who would like to come or if you could put together a short activity at any time, please let Margaret Carrick know.
