Pastor’s Message – November 2016
As we climb quickly to Christmas and the end of another year here at Bilton, we are facing a new chapter in our mission.
29th November was when we said goodbye to Rev Bob Jones and his wife Ann after being our minister for nearly eight years, and we now face a period of time when we will be led by our Elders, with the help of our interim moderator. Can I ask that you hold us in your prayers during this time? Please pray that we will lead the church with integrity and wisdom, listening first and foremost to what God is saying to us and faithfully responding to the Holy Spirit’s lead.
Please also pray that we will have the grace to have our ears open to what the Spirit might be saying through you, the members and regular attenders of our fellowship.
In the United Reformed Church, our highest council is the church meeting, so can I encourage you – whether you are a full member or a regular worshipper – to attend church meetings and give us, as your Elders, your views. Anyone is welcome at church meetings although only members can vote. If you have never made the commitment to full membership, why not consider it? Membership is both a privilege (as you shape the mission of the church) and it’s also a responsibility to share and support each other and share in the congregation’s missions to the community. I am happy to talk to anyone who wants to explore membership without obligation.
Advent is the time when we spiritually prepare to celebrate again the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who came into this world as a vulnerable baby into an everyday family. He shared our humanity and was obedient to his Heavenly Father; let us prepare to meet again that same Jesus as He leads us through those Christmas celebrations into this new chapter of our mission.
May you all have a blessed and happy Christmas and a wonderful 2016.
Your friend and elder,
